Pastors Corner
From March 6, 2007
Alabama Baptist Back Page
The recent tornados in Alabama (a record 13 in February)
have left many hurting physically and many more mentally. I
recently spent a day in Lawrence County (Northwest Alabama)
serving as a Disaster Relief
Chaplain. Fourteen chaplains (including Ray Bateman from
EBA)
went door to door checking on folks and to simply let them
“tell there story”. I met some precious folks and dealt
with the “why” question as best I could with opportunities
to share the Gospel. Two things immediately rang my
“awareness bell”. We must be prepared for such seemingly
“out of nowhere” tragedies both physically and spiritually.
Please, review your preparedness procedures or if you have
none, get them in place. It’s too late when the Emergency
Management sirens begin to sound. Most of the ones I spoke
with had only seconds to seek protection. One family had
never used their below-ground shelter but had recently
checked the access door. The shelter saved their lives as
the house was moved off its foundation and destroyed.
Secondly, we must be prepared spiritually as to our
connection with the Lord. Again, daily communicating with
God in that we don’t know what’s down the road, but He
does! May God bless and keep you safe.

your Missions Director
