Etowah Community Free Clinic Mission: We are committed to the physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual well-being of our Etowah County family and friends in crisis. We will achieve that goal by caring holistically for the sick and teaching everyone how to stay in good health. Etowah Community Free Clinic Statistics:
April – Patients seen in the
office – 151 Dr. Linda Jones, member of Twelfth Street Baptist Church, was the first volunteer physician. The Etowah Free Community Clinic is a unique faith-based health services clinic. Its purpose is to promote holistic healing - physical, mental, emotional, and Christ-like spiritual healing. Its staff is composed of volunteers who really care about people. Our initial focus is to take care of the acute and chronic conditions of those individuals without insurance, Medicaid, or Medicare while they are in crisis or those unable to purchase their much needed medications. We will then strive to do whatever we can to get them back "on their feet" and pass them back into the traditional health care system as quickly as possible. The Clinic is a collaborative effort of local reputable healthcare providers, the faith community, local hospitals and charitable organizations. An assessment of health care facilities and providers show approximately 20,000 Etowah County residents are medically underserved. In addition, the closing of the local steel plant left approximately 4,000 to 8,000 persons suddenly without health in the 46 - 60 year old age bracket (and their spouses) where blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, and other chronic diseases are becoming significant health problems. The Clinic also provides extensive one-on-one client education, counseling and some selective community education preventative classes to help people learn how to stay in good health. Please remember this ministry in your prayers and consider your role in its success. Monetary donations may be sent to: Community Care, Inc. P.O. Box 8622 Gadsden, AL 35902 The Need is Great In today's society, when one is sick, if insurance is not provided by the employer the cost of medical care is very expensive. Approximately 20,000 Etowah County residents are underserved. The hospitals report approximately 500 non-emergency visits per month. The people tend to use the ER department for just a cold because they have no insurance to go anywhere else, therefore the cost in our hospitals is greater. This cost is passed on to paying patients and insurance companies. By providing this service we are helping everyone in the community, not just a few. The money is already being spent. We need to refocus our efforts to promote treatment, maintenance, prevention and education. Initially, the costs are all the same; diagnostics, medications, staffing and time. But, in the long run...We are empowering families to live healthier, happier and more productive lives and at the same time sharing Jesus with them. All You Have To Do Help us provide a free clinic where volunteer physicians, nurses, social workers and counselors can care for patients during crisis. Provide a free clinic where patients can be not only treated medically, but patients and their families can be cared for spiritually, emotionally, and intellectually. In time, many patients will learn how to better manage their health and can be encouraged to utilize other healthcare resources. Once a patient is stable, (physically, emotionally, spiritually and mentally) they will be re-evaluated for clinic services and other referrals.
There is a great need not only for the health of individuals, but for the health
of their relationship with Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. How will they
know if we do not minister to them where their need is? By showing them
love and compassion we are showing them the Creator, the one that, as Psalm 139
says, formed them in their mother's womb, the one that knew them before they
were even thought of.
